1 Line Review: A slow paced cringing thriller.
You do not get to see such movies all the time. But then, its the 2nd movie this year from Bollywood which made me cringe. First being NH10. Yikes!
Titli is a story of car thieves and this is their ‘family’ business. Titli being the name of the youngest one in the family of 3 brothers and their father who live in a dingy house in Delhi. All the brothers are partners in crime and they jack up travellers on dark roads between Delhi and Haryana to sell off cars and make money (and hurting the passengers with hammer in the process, I cringe even thinking about it).
Titli happens to be the only one with good intentions in the family and wants to get out of this mess and has tried many things to get away, but failed all the time. The senior bothers arranges for him to get married to an educated girl and these brothers are so shameless that they include her also in their ‘daily’ business!
How the equations change when Titli gets married? Why did the new bahu of the house not protests, run away, call the police or do any such thing?! Well, you got to watch the movie to find out how story twists and turns!
Ranvir Shorey acts like a gem as the eldest brother, the middle one looks natural and Title and his wife seem like newcomers (they are) but did not disappoint. Father’s role is played by the real father of the director of the movie.
Titli has already won multiple accolades at various International Film Festivals and am kind of unhappy about that fact that only the gruesome, sick and poverty glorifying movies make it to the awards! (Slumdog Millionaire, Court and now this).
At times the movie is funny but the hammer did not stop haunting me all throughout. Also, please ensure you are not eating during the entire show, the movie characters cough too much + there is 1 vomit scene. You are welcome.
Disclaimer: We ourselves are 3 brothers in the family but gwwwd promise we do not have any family business.
