Main Aur Charles (2015 film) Review

1 Line Review: If not for Randeep, Main Aur Charles would be the only two souls watching it!

Its a stylish movie no doubt but then if you try testing your audience’s patience just by shuffling dates here and there then we lose interest. Not like its a Back to the Future themed movie not its any murder suspense! The saviour in the movie is Charles (Mr. Hooda) himself and the direction, the uselessly loud background score and the slow pace ensured the thrill in this thriller is juiced out!

No points for guessing the movie is based on Charles Sobhraj – the charming con man, psychopath, hypnotic, bikini killer, also known as The Serpent from the 70’s and 80’s who murdered around 12 ladies (mostly hippies and travellers) and used their passports and monies to continue his travels and explore life! He also used to charge reporters for getting his interview in the jail, his popularity made  all the policemen involved in his capture famous overnight. He knew more than 10 languages and was a avid reader, he used to fight his own case in courts and helped many in the jail as well.

The movie shuffles between dates and portray Charles life (seen through a police inspector who was incharge of his capture), his girl friends, his targets, his way of hypnotising women and men alike for different reasons, of course and his sharp mind in planning his life events. Randeep Hooda saved the movie with his perfect style quotient, his french accent and his acting skills. Among others, Richa Chadda plays a role of one of his girl friend and her interrogation is the funniest part of the movie. It also showcases how much Charles could impact anyone who gets associated with him!

Its songs are another good part of Main Aur Charles, ‘Neeli Bullet’ and ‘Jab Chaye Mera Jaado’ are among it’s best (they have been playing on repeat mode for days now).

The second half is much better than the first. I still give it a ‘dekkho’ rating and want you to go watch it. May be a bit slow, but a good watch nevertheless!
