1 Line Review: A must watch for all sales personals across industry.
If you have not read the book or have never heard of Jordan Belfort then this movie might look like too outrageous to be true! But looks like the story indeed is true. Jordan started off as a stock broker and soon realized he can make money in multiple ways, legal and illegal. Became multi-millionaire within years, he then partied like a rock star, got into major drug addiction, married twice, divorced twice, lived like a king and what not. When money comes easy you buy many things and destroy many relationships because money gets into your head. The story is based in the 90’s when the company formed by Jordan – ‘Stratton Oakmont’ got involved in securities fraud, corruption and other malpractices.

One thing let to another and his half a decade of glorious life started to come down crashing day by day. He then started smuggling raw cash into other countries (which itself is a funny sequence of events) and things went out of hand soon. How he tried salvaging the situation is funny and scary at the same time.
Multiple scenes in the movie are so hilarious that you just laugh out loud. The party planning scene in the board room, the reason why Jordan was tied to his seat on a plane when going to Switzerland and the ultimate scene of him getting into his car from a club to reach his home when he was way too high on drugs. This scene itself is worthy of a Oscar! Jordan’s conversation with the FBI folks on his boat is class apart.
Many original employees of his company have come forward and refuted many a things saying Martin (director and producer) has cooked up few parts to make the movie entertaining. I have read the 550 pager book and I am telling you the movie is as per the book!

Now why this movie is such an important thing to watch for all the sales people? Well because, what this man was or was not, he was surely (and still is) the greatest sales person and a magnificent team leader/ motivator. The book has all the full speeches he has given to his employees (few shown in the movie), the sales tricks he used and later taught everyone, the ‘sell-me-a-pen’ pitch is a well know beauty but it was redefined by him. Cold calling on phone takes an all new meaning. Watch out for the two demo calls he makes for his partners and employees to see and learn. Classic.
No one other than Leo could have carried this movie on his shoulders like he did. His acting is a class apart, be it Titanic, Departed, Blood Diamond, Shutter Island, Inception and now this. My personal suggestion is that if you see a Leo’s movie releasing, you should definitely go watch it!!
All those who think taking drugs is ok and can be cured should definitely watch this movie and understand how uncontrollable things get. Also, quick and easy money can get you fame soon but will land you in jail even sooner!
Its a 3 hour mayhem. Be prepared. Currently Jordan is a motivational speaker. He spent 22 months in prison, divorced 2 wives. Has 2 kids. As of 2013 he is engaged again.
