1 Line Review: Greenland, Iceland and the Himalayas will mesmerise.
Walter Mitty (Ben Stiller) works for LIFE magazine as a negative asset manager (yes, the photo negative) and the magazine is shutting down to give way to the online version of LIFE. And to top it all, Mr. Mitty seems to have lost the last issue cover photo’s negative. Ouch!
This is the second movie adaption of the short story written in 1939; Directed, produced and acted by Ben Stiller himself. The movie is a mix of funny, romantic, scenic, adventurous and dramatic parts. And at times gives chills to your bones looking at the amazing cinematography in locations like Greenland and Iceland. And the Himalayas. Take that as a bonus!
Walter Mitty has spent a mundane life working at LIFE for the last 16 years and has not really done anything significant personally as well. He even tried a dating site and failed miserably. Since he never really did much in life, he always gets zoned out into his day dreaming mode. Almost everything he is not able to do things in reality, he zones out to do that in his dreams! The transitions shown are beautifully done.
To prove a point to get this last job done, before he gets axed due to downsizing in the company, he tries to follow leads to the place where he could find this image. One thing leads to another and he reaches Greenland.
Gets into a helicopter with a drunk pilot, swims in an ocean with sharks around, reaches Iceland, skates, gets saved from an volcanic eruption of the famous Eyjafjallajökull volcano. And what not!
More clues lead him to Himalayas and after mountaineering for multiple days he finds the man he was looking for. But then he does not really find what he was searching, he find more than just that. Am not revealing this part, you got to see it what happens here.
I found the ending predictable but then it was well executed. The Greenland and Iceland parts floored me. Hence that extra 1 star! 🙂
