1 Line Review: Nothing great, Ok Ok 1 time TV watch.
Don’t get me wrong, this is a well made movie. But its slow, predictable and gave me a feeling of been there done that. Try mixing Special 26, Bunty Aur Babli and The Wolf of Wall Street. You might get American Hustle out of it. Yup, seriously.
Christian Bale and Amy Adams work as a team who con people by giving them false assurances that they can get them bigger loans and take service fee of $5000. Non refundable! 🙂 While conning Bradley Cooper (an FBI agent) they get caught and then they are asked to work for FBI, wear wire, expose the bigger gang taking bribe etc.
The movie starts with a caption – ‘Some of this really happened’. I do not doubt it either, even Special 26 really happened. I just felt that American Hustle missed the action expected out of such a plot. It was too plain for me.
Some spice was added by Amy Adams’ dresses. She always wore vertically split dresses from the centre. Guess that is why this movie was ‘A’ rated. Yes it was, am as surprised as you are. Nevertheless her acting was good.
Some comic relief came in the form of Jennifer Lawrence (Christian Bale’s mental wife and my favourite star in the Hollywood), her acting was to the point. Precise to the unpredictable character of this person. Even though I love Jennifer and would give 5 stars to her acting skills I would confess that it was not that good a role for which you can give an Oscar! She is already nominated for the same. She has received many awards for this role. Yes, already. In any case. More love to her! 🙂
American Hustle had hardly a few surprises. Just 1 big surprise, most of others were very predictable.
Christian Bale on the other hand, did a marvellous job of getting into the character. I loved his role and highly recommend for all the awards and nominations. The first scene itself where he glues his hair is priceless.
Overall I suggest you wait for it to come on TV. But if you are Amy Adams fan, go for it on the big screen. She will floor you! 🙂
