1 line review: A slow political thriller lasting 2 hours.
After Khosla Ka Ghosla, Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! and Love Sex aur Dhokha comes another ‘zara hat ke’ movie from Dibakar Banerjee.
This one is about Bharat Nagar where a mega infrastructure project (backed by the ruling party) promising to change the face of this small town, gets involved in a political murder of an activist (Prosenjit Chatterjee) protesting this change.
Kalki Koechlin does not appear impressive. I will confess that I did not like her in this movie, may be the role demanded this subtle behavior. You will most of all like Emraan Hashmi for his role/acting as he is not plying his usual ‘serial kisser’ role. I loved his teeth! 🙂 Abhay Deol has played a South Indian heading this infrastructure company, very close to the CM and the ruling party. His position makes every policeman piss in their pants and you will particularly like a few scenes where he interrogates a few of them.
Now, let me also tell you that there have been better political movies made in the past – Raajneeti, Maqbool and Gangaajal. This one is so slow paced that I saw 3 people sleeping near my seat by the time the movie ended (no kidding)! To be fair to the audience, the movie is really slow. By the time it was interval, there was hardly anything that happened. The entire story could have been covered in 30 minutes flat. 114 minutes for it was a real drag. The 2 awesome songs playing in repeat mode on my mobile, laptop and car did NOT feature at all in the movie!!! I demand 25% ticket money back! The songs are – Duaa & Khudaya.
All in all I would not recommend it to be watched in a multiplex with an exorbitant ticket price. It will soon be on TV.
Verdict – 2/5
