Phantom: Movie Review: They messed up this Jalebi

This was supposed to be a thriller. But very soon into the movie you would realise this is a mix of stories from multiple movies (and even a TV series for that matter). The movie is trying to punch in too many things into one and it went too fast at times for the audience to grasp on what happened when (and then relate). The links to many plots were not really clear, so many references to so many names and importance of them in the storyline kind of left me disappointed coz initially I tried tracking what the hell is really happening but then it was too much for my brain to analyse, I left trying.

Ok, let me slow down. The movie started as a plot from the movie ‘BABY’ and then drifted into many other, like – ‘Ek Tha Tiger’, the TV series ‘Homeland’, ‘Agent Vinod’, ‘Titanic’ (yes, you bet), ‘Special Chabbis’ etc. Every time the adrenaline rush kicked in, they messed up with some stupid emotional content, which was to say the least, not so emotional at all.

Phantom is a story of how a secret agent from RAW (akka Mr. Agent Vinod) brings all the culprits of 26/11 to justice – by killing them in cold blood. This is an awesome plot and had the potential to rock. But afsoos, ye ho na saka.

Saif Ali Khan may never come close to how Akshay Kumar takes up such roles, you got to watch BABY and see how such roles are performed. And what do we talk about Katrina, my love for her pulls me back from telling the truth about her acting skills! 🙂 Her hindi has not improved at all and for this very fact in all her movies the background of her character originates from England! Phew, bahut hua, ab band karo pouting dialogue delivery.

Another disappointing part was the most awaited song of the movie – Afgan Jalebi. The video of the song was not what consumed the internet, the video was totally different, so different that we actually thought that the Katrina starrer Afgan song will play when the credits roll. Magar afsoons aisha kuch bhi nahin hua!

I recommend you give this Phantom a miss.

Bonus:

Recently a SRK fan tweeted a movie plot adding up all of SRK’s movies. It came out as a superb story. This single tweet has more punch than entire movie – Phantom. Do read it. Even SRK retweeted it and appreciated the creativity. You are welcome. here it is –
