Movie Review: Drishyam – Thrilling, Gripping and Engrossing!

1 Line Review: A thriller you should not miss!

Truth be told, am no big fan of Ajay Devgan. But somehow his movies where he is doing a serious role works well with me. So is the case with Drishyam. Please ensure you do NOT read any reviews anywhere before you watch this one. All you need to know is that this Drishyam is a suspense thriller and the edge of the seat thrill will keep your heartbeat racing. I would not be lying if I tell you that there were more than 5 times when my BP increased way above the normal reading. I say ‘way above’ because after the first 15 minutes, it was above normal anyways!

Yes, thats how gripping this movie is. Mind you there is no action, fight scenes or any such. Ajay has appeared in so many Rohit Shetty movies that we kind of expect him to perform some stunt (‘aata majhi satakli’ kinda stuff) but fikar not, this movie will not give you headache. You will feel for him and his family.

It would now be fair for you not to read this review anymore as I do not want you to know anything more than what I have already told you, for watching Drishyam. Actually as a rule, you should not be reading any movie review in detail if it involves suspense.

At first my heart was not sure if I should be feeling for the family or against. Things could have been dealt in a better manner I thought, but then its a movie, I realised (see how it started playing with my mind). During the course of the movie I got so involved that I could almost feel the pain. Watching one of the scene towards the climax made me so mad that I realised I had goosebumps, racing heartbeat and I was sweating. Only the exact combination of thrill, good acting and story line can make you go thru such a condition.

I think the movie has only 1 song or may be no song, not sure, the song also should have been an integral part of the movie hence I did not notice.

This middle class family stories touches my soul guess coz i could relate to their aspiration, apprehensions and fear. Another such movie that I loved was Rishi Kapoor starrer Do Dooni Chaar. Amazing simplicity in the story still touches the heart. Loved it.

If you are still reading this review and haven’t seen Drishyam yet then you are missing out on an awesome movie. Go watch it now.

The movie is little long. Almost 3 hours long. Plan accordingly.

  1. I recommend that you watch the Malayalam movie Drishyam from which other language versions spawned. It would certainly make for an interesting contrast. The understated acting of Mohan Lal is endearing. The kid's acting is mind-blowing too. I hear that the Tamil version "Papanasam" is also very good and Kamal Hassan has done very well in it.
I read the review for the Hindi version and one point made me ROFL. The reviewer says that "it is hard to imagine Ajay Devgan as a 4th class fail. He is way too sophisticated" .:)

  2. hahaha. Loved the last line. I kind of agree 🙂 And now I have heard so much about the malayalam version that I got to watch it asap. I only pity that I will not be able to amaze myself with the suspense when I watch it again, nevertheless I will watch it. thanks again for your view! 🙂
