Padmaavat Movie Review

I saw Padmaavat only on Amazon Prime, after many months of its original release, which itself was delayed due to all the useless protests. After I finished watching it, first thought that came to my mind was, why all this kolavari* di?

I was worried from the start itself as the duration of the movie is 2 hours and 30 minutes. Still, the hype kept pushing me. Frankly, when I start cringing watching anything specific, I get very irritated and I start less liking the movie. And that obviously shows in my ratings. This happened with Padmaavat twice. The sati thing and the very fact that both Ratan Singh and Allaudin Khilji were already married when they married again or was willing to get another wife and on top of that expected the first wife to continue living life as if nothing has changed. I understand its from the era when this was allowed but then am watching it in 21st century and it was cringe worthy to me.

Now, knowing what Bhansali ji can do to his movies I had very high expectations and all expectations were met rightfully. In my ratings I have also given the benefit of doubt as I saw the movie on a smart TV and not a large screen. The details on cinematography, sets and costumes are a given that it would be the best the world has ever seen. Apparently, this movie is the costliest Hindi Bollywood movie yet! Now I know why.

Ranveer’s acting skills are out of this world no doubt, I thoroughly enjoyed him. Few of the funny scenes were beautifully carried out. Deepika is super elegant as always and her dresses were totally amazing and jaw dropping. Shahid Kapoor looked a little submissive for a Rajput prince but am not really complaining. All said and done, I found Aditi Rao much more beautiful than everyone else in the movie.

The climax was so cringe worthy and stretched that I would deduct half a rating for the same. If you have already seen it, you will know why.

*Am referring to the violence, cuts, censor and riots over this movie. Its not even real story and that too there was nothing wrong in the movie which could have induced violence.
