Lootera Review

1 Line Review: Well made but slow towards the end.

Set in 1950’s, this is a story of a landlord Mr. Roy Chowdhury (Barun Chanda) living in West Bengal with his daughter (Sonakshi Sinha) and enormous wealth. Including a big house, multiple acres of land and jewels gifted by angrez. Varun Shrivastav a.k.a Atmanand Tripath a.k.a Nandu (Ranveer Singh) is part of a family gang of his uncle and his friend Dev (Vikrant Massey), who steal from the rich and the famous with great planning.

Highly mature and composed performances given by all the actors. Actually Ranveer’s motorcycle and Mr. Roy’s car also play a lot of role in the movie and both parties look good too!

First half moves smoothly and with lot of excitement. The painting lessons between Ranveer and Sonakshi neatly portrays a very real (and cute) love story. Second half starts well but then it gets very slow (that’s the only negative about the movie), then you will realise that part of its story is adapted from the famous story – The masterpiece – The last leaf. Mesmerising Dalhousie has been shown in the entire 2nd half and the place looks beautiful. The lootera and police chase has been shot well, showcasing the beauty of the place even more.

A story of how a lootera becomes a lover and devotes his life for giving a reason to live to his premekia! Profound I say 🙂 Music of lootera was already a hit before release with the best one being ‘sawaar loon’, but ‘ankahee’ is also a good number. Actually I love the initial music of this song more than the song itself! Click here to listen to all the tracks.

With a run time of 2 hours and 25 minutes, ensure you are ready for a slow but steady 2nd half. Go for it anyways!

Extraa Innings: Sonakshi is getting more and more mature with her acting I must admit. Frankly, I was not hoping for a great performance from her, but she surprised me for good. Next month you will see more of her in ‘Once Upon a Time In Mumbaai Dobara’.

Ranveer Singh stole everyone’s heart from his first movie itself – ‘Band Baaja Baaraat’. He does very well here too. Next he will be seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s adaptation of Romeo and Juliet – ‘Ram Leela’, with Deepika Padukone, releasing 15th Nov, 2013. That sounds really interesting, isn’t it?

Vikramaditya Motwane, director of this film has previously directed Udaan (His directorial debut), which is one of my all time favourites. Hope to see more awesomeness from this person.

  1. Amazing movie as mentioned by Aditya , had lot of moments which can be praised. Sonakshi actually was a surprise package for everyone. In her career, this would be the 4th hit out of 5 movies till now. The acting of both the stars is uncomparable with their aged stars. Such mature acting was done by Saif and Vidya in Parineeta when they were mature enough to depict it. The young stars are coming up with the surprise performances . Movie, if we consider the story is very good but not excellent music is good. I was touched by 'Ankahee'. But even if the storyline would seem to be bit slow in second half the actors performance would hold the audience which is amazing. 3.5/5.
