Fast & Furious 7: Movie Review

1 Line Review: Flying cars. Oh wait, more flying cars.

Truth be told, am no die hard ‘Furious series’ fan, I went in to see some juicy action sequences and I must say I was not disappointed. Since this was Paul’s last appearance, the audience had an emotional connect with the movie and the frequent cheering for all the action sequences as well as one liners made the movie watching experience totally ‘Jhakaas’.

If you are a regular reader of my reviews, you would know my ratings are based on ‘paisa vasool’ meter. This one gets 4 out of 5.

Expectations from a F&F series is to have thrill and edge of the seat ‘road rage’ entertainment. F&F7 did just that. The longest scene is shot at the Pikes Peak Highway (Colorado). The bus sequence involving Paul Walker made me skip a heart beat. How these cars actually reached this highway is an interesting thing for you to watch out. The flying cars just upped the ante. Other interesting sequence is shot in Abu Dhabi. Guess the basic theme of F&F7 was to ‘fly cars’, you will see more of them here.

As my wife pointed out, when similar stunts are attempted by Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra on bikes and autos they get trolled. We Indians are so biased. Not fair 🙂

Sad part about Indian movie halls and even multiplexes is that they do not know when to break into interval (applicable only to Hollywood movies). Since these movies are not made with intervals, movie halls just stop abruptly as soon as 50% of the run time is done (guess that’s automated). Especially in this movie the interval reminded me I was watching a movie, I was engrossed in that awesome action sequence.

Talking about performances, Jason Statham is one person who has constantly impressed me. I loved him the most in the ‘Transporter’ series. He looks gooood here too! Vin Diesel has the most prominent role in the movie but somehow I still struggle trying to decipher his dialogues (heavy voice). Tyrese Gibson as usual at his funny best. Kurt Russell has got way too old (64) and it shows. Watch out for the hotness factor in ‘Ramsey’ played by Nathalie Emmanuel.

The movie ends with a tribute to Paul. Most of us in the audi stood up and clapped for his last performance. Go ahead watch it, till they make F&F8. Few of the scenes featuring Paul is actually done with CGI along with his brothers Caleb and Cody.

Car drop scene is one of the best in the world as of now. Am waiting for the next James Bond movie (Spectre) to raise the bar. I trust Daniel Craig will not disappoint me.
