Dunkirk: Movie Review

Not worth the hype.

It was disappointing in both the aspects – A Nolan movie and a war movie.

I have seen much better war movies as well as Nolan movies. Interstellar, Inception and The Prestige are my all time favorite movies of Nolan. And in the war movie department I liked Hacksaw Ridge, Saving Private Ryan, American Sniper, The Great Escape, Schindler’s List, The Enemy at the Gates, Behind Enemy Lines, Argo…

I must say, joining this elite group of awesome movies takes a lot, even when you are a Nolan!

Dunkirk is about the rescue of soldiers from the beaches of Dunkirk (France) during the World War II, 1940. Since Germans kept bombing all the ships, Civilians came forward with their small boats to help, more than 300000 soldiers were rescued and more than 700 small boats showed up.

The movie plays out from 3 perspective covering 3 different time durations.

1. The Sea – a day
2. The Land – a week
3. The Air – an hour

The background music by Hans Zimmer is as always amazing. But all said and done, its worth a watch. Go for it.
