Badlapur: Movie Review

1 Line Review: A husband’s revenge, like never before.

As the title suggests, do not miss the beginning. The story is build on what happens within the first 15 minutes and from there Nawazuddin Siddiqui spreads his charm. I ended up waiting for him to appear back on screen as soon as he went away.

Nawazuddin (liak) and Vinay Pathak (Harman) loot a bank and run away in Misha’s (Yami Gautam) car, with her son also with them. Misha is Raghu’s (Varun Dhawan) wife. In the heat of the moment both Misha and her son are killed and Liak is caught and is sentenced 20 years in jail. The wait and Revenge follows.

Varun is at his intense best. From what he did in ‘Main Tera Hero’, you would see a sea change in him, for good. The role made him do mean things and he did it with sincerity. Yami has a short role, for obvious reasons. Though I would have loved to see more of her. Huma Qureshi was good too. Sometimes I feel Huma and Nawazuddin come in a package 🙂  And yes, when Vinay Pathak and his wife got into the story, things became very interesting (and funny).

Now, talking about Nawazuddin bhai. What more should be said, he is one actor who defines acting. He fits his roles so well, you could not imagine him being anything else. Except in Kick, where I felt he was a little out of place. Anyways, here in Badlapur, he is one prisoner you burst into laughter just looking at. His dialogue delivery and effortless performance dil jeet lega!

Even though the story line was a little slow, Nawazuddin and a couple of twists here and there saved the movie. Also, going by Sriram Raghavan’s (director) past record of ‘Johnny Gaddar’ (one of my all time favourite) and Ek Hasina thi, these twists were kind of expected.

Though I would have expected the ending to be more interesting than what I saw, it still is a very good watch. Go for it.
