The Art of Movie Watching at a Multiplex

Since I watch so many movies every month, I thought why not share a few tips and tricks of the trade for watching a great show at the most cost effective way and with the best experience. Not that am the only one who watches movies in this movie crazy country but even if 1 or 2 of these tips help you then it would be worth writhing this blog post. Yup.

So here we go, these are a few very small but smart tips for you to get the best movie experience in a multiplex.

1. Book Tickets Online – Well, this one is a no brain-er but many a times you do not realize that booking it online saves you much priceless time than just money. Ya, there is a convenience charge as well, but is it more than the time you would waste reaching the theatre and stand in a q? I don’t think so.

2. Book in Advance – Its always good to be seated at the best seats when you watch your favourite flick, isn’t it? So to get the best seat farthest from the screen, you need to be among the firsts to book it, for that to happen you need to book in advance. Now book it online – read point 1 again.
3. Book in the smallest theatre – Now this is something you would not have thought of. If the same movie is running in multiple screens in the same multiplex (you can check this online by clicking on all the timings when your movie is playing, click on seat layout and find out which theatre is smaller), book tickets in the theatre with the smaller screen. Check out the benefits of doing this –
          a. Less people in the theatre.
          b. Less crowd means less chaos/halla.
          c. Interval – you will have shorter q in the food and drinks counter.
          d. Even better – lesser people in the loo! Faster turn out 🙂

4. Morning Show – Whenever possible, try booking for the morning show, weekdays many not be possible but weekends you should try the morning show. The prices are much much cheaper than the night ones. Sometimes 66% lower! Did you know that? Now you know.

5. Weekday Show – Watching night shows on weekdays saves a lot of energy (lesser chaos) and are less expensive. Only down side is that you would already be tired through the day with your work. Late night movie on a weekday may become too much for you. You would have an office to go to the next day as well. Your call, cost will be better on weekdays.

6. Mid Week Bonanza – Like last month, every Wednesdays in PVR, Cinepolis and Fame, all tickets of shows of all timings were priced at Rs.100 only! Similar offers keeps running once in a while, these can be used to watch movies in multiplex like the cost of a single screen theatre ticket!

7. Seat Delivery – Just like home delivery, these days you get food on your seat. So say bye bye to waiting for your awesome dishes to be prepared and handed over to you. Yes, it’s no more just pop corn and Cold drink that can be delivered over the counter to you. There are a hell lot of options these days and most of them takes time to prepare, you need not wait in the q for it to be handed over to you and miss out the trailer of the upcoming flicks! Give your seat number and they will deliver, for immediate respite do carry your pop corn and cold drink with you! 🙂

8. Water Bottle – Almost all multiplexes I have been to have a water purifier in the vicinity just that it’s visible to you. Yes, most of them make it harder for you to find this water purifier or water cooler where you can drink water for free, as that will diminish the sale of their high priced water bottles. Just be there 10 mins early and roam around, you will find it. Anyways, almost all the multiplexes are in Malls and they have water dispensers in the food court and at other floors as well. You can save some bucks here too.

9. Loo Break – If you watching alone, as soon as you read interval and lights turn on, run to the loo and quickly get in the q at the snacks counter (if you want to grab something quickly or apply rule no.7). If you are in a group, chill. Go to the loo, let 1 of your friends get to the snacks counter first and start ordering, when you come back you exchange the place and allow him/her to relieve. No time wasted anywhere. And those trailers will start when you are long seated! Awesome.

10. Car Parking – If you are on a bike, not much that I could suggest and you will not save much anyways, but you are welcome to use these rules if it suits. If you have come in your car, read your parking token carefully, sometimes it’s sponsored by one of the shops in the mall, and if happen to have plans to buy stuff from that shop then you should very well do that and get the parking cost reimbursed. OR sometimes it’s redeemable at one of the shops after you spend a minimum amount. But if you end up spending like 1000 bucks to redeem your Rs.20 then you can avoid such offers! Your wife might end up saying – ‘I anyways wanted to buy this thing and you are getting  your Rs.20 back, so what is your problem?’ I have nothing much to add here 🙂 And ya, if your office is close by or if you have already parked close by in a safe parking place then don’t take it out, just walk. Saves you money and walking is anyways good for health! 🙂

Do add more if you have more ideas, am a good listener! Happy Movie Watching people. Enjoy!

Disclaimer: Until Cinepolis opened up it’s first multiplex in Bangalore, PVR was my favourite place to watch movies.
