1 Line Review: Slow and predictable.
When TE3N’s poster released on 1st May 2016, I was very excited. Firstly because this movie comes from the makers of ‘Kahani’ (which I throughly enjoyed) and secondly because its poster was copied from Inception (I expected that intense a drama). So, as any movie lover would be, I was eagerly waiting for it to release. And it did, on 10th June 2016. Then I went to watch it last night and all I kept pleading was to ‘jaldi karo babu moshaiye’!
Well, Just like most of us who went for this movie, we cannot be blamed for such expectation. TE3N was coined as a suspense thriller and it came from the house of Sujoy Ghosh, we all expect nothing but the best (Kahani rose the bar). But then I later researched and found out that unlike ‘Kahani’ (where Ghosh himself wrote the story, directed it and even produced it) TE3N was just a production for him. Guess that’s what dampened it for all of us. FYI, even before the credits starts, it clearly states that TE3N is ‘inspired’ from a Korean movie Montage. How many times have you seen such a thing being openly admitted! 🙂

Ok, back to the movie. Amithabh loses his grand child to a case of kidnapping and murder. The culprit is never found and the case is shut (almost). He could never forgive himself for this incident and continues his own investigation with whatever limited resources he has. Nawazuddin was the inspector in that case and he moves on to become a Father in a church, he also could not forgive himself for the death of this child.
Things were moving slow when suddenly after 8 years the same sequence of events started happening again and this time the commanding officer, Vidya Balan involved the Padri (aka Nawazuddin) since he knew how things moved last time.
So far so good. Only problem was the direction. First of all, it assumed audience has an IQ of less then average, secondly it did not need 137 minutes to tell this story. 90 minutes would have been ideal for the narration. I would have given 4 stars as the pace would have been much faster then.
Having said that, Amithabh was at his usual best. His relationship with his scooter will bring tears to your eyes. Nawaz bhaisaab is capable of much more, this is too plain a role for him. Am waiting for Rahav Raman where he plays a psychopath. Oh la la, that would be fun! Vidya too was under utilised.
If you have time and you don’t mind a slow paces suspense thrilled, go watch this one.
Just to let you know I haven't read it completely but can you tell me how to do some like the review anonymously.
