1 Line Review: Give Kangana a National Award. Right Now!
If you have not seen the first part of Tanu Weds Manu, I suggest you do. But if you do not have that much patience or the time right away and are excited with all the buzz Tanu is creating then don’t bother, watch Tanu Weds Manu Returns (TWMR), right away. Just go, reading this review is not important. My 1 line review summed up pretty much everything.
The casting will show you their wedding with a background song – Sunn Saiba Sunn (Ram Teri Ganga Maili). This already got me nostalgic and sentimental.
In the very first scene, I fell down laughing from my chair, I could get back to my chair only in the interval. Well, that’s when I realised I fell down long back and did not get back to my seat!
That speaks a lot on how a movie, the set up, the actors, the story, the dialogues can keep you glued. Everyone’s performance was so natural that it takes a while to recall that these people are acting and are not really Tanu, Manu, Dattu, Pappi, Payal, Chintu etc. Without taking away even a single percentage of credit from anyone else in the movie, not even the side actors, the real star of the movie is undoubtedly Kangana Ranaut. I have said this before as well when I reviewed her previous masterstroke – Queen (for which she has already won a National Award and I am nominating her for again for her brilliance in TWMR).
Her performance as a Haryanvi girl could beat anyone else’s dialogue delivery hands down. It is so bloody convincing and entertaining that I almost pressed a rewind button on my arm rest!
Its hard to keep up with the first part when you are making a part 2. But am glad to say this part 2 rocked even more than part 1. So much so that am already expecting a part 3 with some twist, am sure Anand Rai (Director and Producer) is already thinking about it.
Another winner in the movie are the one liners. Throughout the movie each character has so many of them to deliver that its highly impossible not to laugh or take for granted that nothing funny will come out from this side actor, thinking this character may not have been given that much importance in the script, which is wrong. Be it from Pappi or Payal or Manu’s parents, Tanu’s parents, Datto’s brother, the house tenant who feels used or for that matter the ravan of the story – Jimmy Shergill, all have super dialogues and super funny one liners.
Among all this, there is a super story. The movie flows in a way that we could all digest the facts, laugh, feel for Tanu and Manu and be glued to the movie for the next funny thing to happen in their rollercoaster life.
At times I could not hear the full dialogue conversation coz the entire audience was laughing so hard!
Are you still reading? Boss, go out there and watch it. This one is for the keeps, for me.
Bonus: For what a fine actor Kangana is, you got to watch this dil se interview she gave to Anupama Chopra few years back:
Fun Fact: Kangana was almost named Diana or Anamika, before being named Kangana.
