Student of the Year 2: Movie Review

Okay, I need to start with a disclaimer, in the last 5 years and the 6 odd films that Tiger has done, this is the first time I went to a movie hall to watch his movie. But that was not the real reason why I went to watch Student of the Year 2. Ananya is the actual reason. And am so glad to announce, I have found my latest love in Ananya.

But thats where the love ends as much as Student of the Year 2 goes. Frankly, no one knows how to act, be a Tiger, Tara or Ananya. But its Tiger’s 6th movie we expect him to do better, I will not go too hard on him, I think he is improving, may be when he gets a good script he will shine! May be. On the other hand Ananya is good for her first movie. I may be biased but nevertheless she is much better than Tara. Tara has the same expression all throughout the movie.

Having said that, the real and the biggest let down is the direction, storyline and the script. You have no clue how many competitions the happening in parallel – Dignity Cup (what name is that? so if you lose, you lose your dignity?), Student of the Year, Dare2Dance. Also, there are so many ambitions of so many people but none of that matters coz showing dance moves and Tiger’s body is the key agenda, nothing else matters. What happened to Tara’s future?

And the biggest sham of the year is The Student of the Year title itself. Since they intentionally forgot to write the real title – The Male Student of the Year. Since girls are only required to cheer while seated in the audience. This love triangle between Tiger, Tara and Ananya is also so damn confusing. When it dawns on you that Tiger has made the final choice, he switches to Ananya out of nowhere. Such poor writing and direction. Din tera tha saal mera hoga. All the best.

Kis Kis Se Pyaar Karoon

Am so disappointed with the principal btw, Samir Soni. In the first movie Rishi Kapoor was super amazing and has a decent part but here the principal has absolutely no role to play. Gul Panag is the sports coach of the rich Mother Teresa School, with a total of 3 lines to speak, in the entire movie. Sardarji has a good side hero role. But a good find was my namesake (Aditya Seal) as the leading contender of the SOTY trophy, his screen presence is far more indulging than many other newcomers in Bollywood!

Student of the year 2 only shows how Jo Jeeta Wahi Sikandar is the real classic movie with similar storyline. Go for it, only for the awesome clothing line. And for my Ananya of course.
