Special 26 Review

1 Line Review: An hour thriller stretched to 2.5 hours.

The movie is about a fake CBI team in the 1980’s which used to raid politicians and big business man’s homes/ offices to get all the black money out and took away with them. Since this money was not something that they could legally posses, non of these victims ever filed a complaint and hence never got published in the newspapers.

A perfect modus operandi for a perfect series of loot and supposedly based on true stories. Nice work done by the gang of 4 – Akshay Kumar, Anupam Kher, Rajesh Sharma (Khosla Ka Ghosla fame) and Kishore Kadam.

The problem that I found was not with the acting but with the story, screenplay and direction. The story moved way to slow for a thriller movie. Screenplay was the lousiest ever. Scenes were repeated, every scene people moved in slow motion, guess it was supposed to add to the style but was over done. Well, too over done. I can also tell you for sure that 20% of the movie had only close up shots of characters walking! The love angle of Akshay Kumar was totally useless and it tested audience patience, story should have focused on the fake CBI side only. Like ‘Khosla Ka Ghosla’ or ‘A Wednesday’. Manoj Bajpayee and Jimmy Shergill fit incredibly in such roles but sadly there was not much for them.

Frankly, am done with such useless romance & song sequences in movies where it’s added only to entice the masses. I recon that kind of movie Salman Khan offers every year anyways, lets make some good quality movies without the stuff that is not necessarily required.

Many a times this movie reminded me of ACP Pradyuman’s evergreen team of CID! With all the romance, repeated scenes and slow motion out of the plot I would have rated 4/5 for this 1.5 hour long thriller, if only.
