1 Line Review: Not that gripping!
The best movie that Prakash Jha has ever made according to me is Raajneeti. Since the benchmark is set so high other productions with not so great storyline or screenplay appears to be made half heartedly.
Even when the heart of the movie is at the right place, the direction, screenplay did not seem perfect. Again, knowing the fact that its been made by the same person who made Raajneeti, expectations fly high (that’s the culprit always). Too many things were tried out to be shown in one movie making it two and half hours long. Since it never makes you get involved, you tend to drift in and out of the plot, many a times.
This is a political thriller with Amitabh Bachchan (retired teacher) , Ajay Devgn (successful industrialist turned activist), Kareena Kapoor (journolist), Arjun Rampal (aspiring local leader), Manoj Bajpai (politician) and Amrita Rao (Amitabh’s bahu whose husband gets killed in a political cover up) in the lead roles. But you will enjoy Manoj Bajpai’s role the most, he is a gem of an actor and here he’s funny too.
It deals with the real life issue of the government making a common man run around pillar to post for compensation, pension etc. and how, with so much corruption involved, getting such well deserved money makes them bleed to death, how one thing leads to another and many facts see the light of the day and leads Amitabh Bachchan to do a hunger strike, how Manoj Bajpai waits for the right moment to grab the best opportunity in the situation and makes it work in his favor.
Such a profile suits Ajay Devgan and he carries such roles well, Arjun Rampal does not have much role to play but you can see how he continues to be in the same role as played in Raajneeti. Kareena and Amrita just did average. Watch out for Manoj’s bodyguard, he does funny things.
I was highly impressed with the showcase of heavy social media messages whenever a halla bol/ morcha was taken out in the movie. Facebook Pages, Likes, twitter messages, trending twitter hashtags etc. splashed all over the screen when needed to show the aam aadmi’s opinion and how people were reacting when things were getting out of hand. Liked it.
But no hurry, I say you wait for this to come on TV, 2 months from now, tops.
