Watch it for Rabir Kapoor and the new found Super Star Vicky Kaushal.
Disclaimer: This post is a movie Review about the movie alone, this post has nothing to do with what or what not Sanjay Dutt actually is. I have no idea or clue about his life and his history. My rating is for the movie and the performances by the actors. Thank you.
This is Sanjay Dutt’s story played by the superfine actor Rabir Kapoor. From the very first scene itself it feels like Ranbir will pull it off, he looks exactly like Sanjay Dutt in each and every get up, this itself is incredible. Hats off to the make up and the styling department, job very well done. Ranbir has the right skill to pull of any role and he puts his heart into it (remember Rockstar). The movie starts a little slow I felt and it took a while to pick up momentum. If I look at my watch even once then its not gripping enough – is my rule. I looked at my watch twice during the first half but never in the second half, it gets far better post interval.
While everyone was expecting Ranbir to put up an awesome show (which he did) a new superstar was born with Sanju. Please welcome Vicky Kaushal (Kamli, Sanju Baba’s best friend) – The star from the latest release ‘Raazi’ (playing Alia’s husband, Iqbal). His first movie itself was super liked – ‘Masaan’. I have seen ‘Lust Stories’ and ‘Love per Square Foot’ on Netflix and he is damn good. But then a Rajkumar Hirani’s movie and Vidhu Vinod Chopra Production will give him the right stage to conquer the world from here on (though he may not have really needed one) there is no looking back. And frankly, if whatever has been shown in the movie is right then this Kamli man is a true friend which every person should wish for, only a lucky few can get him though.
Sanju is packed with superstars. Paresh Rawal as Sunil Dutt was good, he is a veteran actor and is expected to be good 🙂 Manisha Koirala as Nargis also had the perfect look. Newly married Sonam Kapoor had a tiny role. Dia Mirza as Sanju’s wife did a good job. And you cannot miss the hotness Anushka Sharma.
With a run time of 166 minutes its almost 3 hours, it was a little too long for my patience, I would have been good with 2 hours.
Do not leave the theatre too soon. There is a story-in-a-song performed by Rabir and Sanjay Dutt, that’s a foot tapping number, you will enjoy it.
Extraaaaa: Rocket Singh, Rockstar and Tamasha are the 3 of my favourite Ranbir performances. Ranbir was also the star for the movie Besharam which did not really do well but its close to my heart as its written by my classmate and friend Rajeev Baranwal. Click here for more
