If you have kids at home, take them to this movie and they will like it.
Like we have ‘A’ for Adult movies, there should be a ‘C’ rating indicating it has kid content! Shaandaar falls straight into that category. And trust me when I say that, I have seen other non sensical movies also (Welcome, Welcome back, Bhaagam Bhag, Golmaal series etc.), this does not fall in that category but falls in the kidishh category.
Its supposedly a destination wedding of 2 super rich families, more family drama, sibling love, and a romantic comedy put into 1 plot. But it turned out to be a plot written keeping in mind a 8 year old.
The movie starts with animation and that grabs the attention of all the lil ones in the house and the adult crowd is hoping things will improve. The first half gets passing marks because by then you would not have realised that the second half can hurt you real bad. Problem with this movie is that we do not go in expecting the right thing (Unlike a Golmaal where I know what to expect). Going by the trailers, I thought it would be a romantic movie.
At times I got a feeling of Matru Ki Bijli Ka Mandola (Pankaj Kapoor ki legacy) and at other times a kids show to be put on Nickelodeon channel. Alia is just 4 movies old and after Highway, I know she can act. But jab plot hi dreamland ka ho toh actors kya kar lengen. Shahid was at his usual and am not sure if he needed to act, there were no scenes where he had to put in anything extra.
The movie has the girl power theme and the super high class might love the idea (this being a super rich family). The jokes are neat at times and pretty pathetic at times.
Warning: Special mention of a sequence where the whole janta gets high on jadi-booti. Forgive them, they are only human.
I go with 2 stars for this not so Shaandaar filam. 1 star for elaborate set ups, dresses and make up. 1 start for both of my favourite songs – Shaam Shaandaar and Gulaboo – Awesome dance performances there. 1 Star for Pankaj Kapoor. But then that’s 3, I am reducing 1 star for Karan Johar’s part in the movie. Hence a total of 2!!
Having said that, I suggest you do NOT go for it (unless your kids insist).
