Everest: A Thrilling Watch!

This 3D movie is based on the 1996 Mt. Everest disaster in which 12 people died due to a severe storm. This was the deadliest year at the Everest until 2014, when 16 people died. Ironically, such dreadful incidents make climbing Everest much more popular and things only became even more chaotic at the Everest Base Camp, which has already become a very dirty place.

I love adventure and adventure sports, I would like to climb a high peak, if not Everest itself, if I ever get the opportunity. Having said that I do not want to become another person crowding the place even further.

The movie showcases the events that lead up to the disaster and how it all unfolded. The cinematography is neat and with the 3D effect you really feel like you are up there. If the audi in which you are watching the movie decides to increase the AC, it will become 4D (you will actually start freezing, like them on the screen! 🙂

One of the climbers who survived the ordeal was a journalist called Jon Krakauer, who was there to write an article about the lives of climbers. He wrote the bestseller book in 1997, instead. Am glad to have read his book ‘Into Thin Air’, few years back. Like all other movies, the book was far better and much more elaborate than this 2 hours movie. If you have also read the book, you will feel the gaps. If not, you should watch the movie directly, it will touch you.

Loss of oxygen is the only thing that kills you, other than the ruff weather, that is. You have no idea how loss of oxygen plays with your mind and body. You hallucinate, you lose the skill of reasoning, it plays with your mind to make you feel hot even when the temperature up there is many many degrees below zero and you start tearing up your clothes to get some coolness! And, what not!

The visuals in the movie are breathtaking, the acting is good and overall you will feel what the movie is trying to showcase. Go for it.

I suggest you go for it in a IMAX theatre.
