First things first, I saw this movie in an actual cinema hall and this itself requires a blog post to talk about my experience in watching a movie back in a movie hall along with so many people around you.
Last I was in a multiplex it was Feb/ March 2020 watching Jojo Rabbit and 1917 – few of the best movies in the recent times. If you have not seen these, go watch them on an OTT platform right away.
Back to James Bond. I saw No Time To Die on an 3D IMAX screen at PVR Bangalore. Not really a fan of 3D movies as it makes the entire screen very dark. The night scenes were especially difficult to concentrate on.
Just for comparison, an annual subscription for an OTT platform is at an average of Rs.500 or less for an entire year in India. Just for this movie experience I paid Rs.800 per seat 0 inclusive of travel parking etc. excluding the bizarrely expensive popcorn I bought. Make no mistakes am a movie buff, am ready to shell our top dollars for the right experience and movie but you can see what the lockdown has done to my brain. It’s been 18 months, I will get back to my senses soon.
I knew it was Daniel’s last bond movie and he has talked about getting done with bond movies and this notion kind of grew on me, hence I watched this movie knowing that he is doing it for the sake of finishing his job. That’s not a good feeling, especially when you are watching a bond movie!
All bond movies are known for its opening action sequence, you pick up any of Daniel’s last 4 movies and you will notice that No Time To Die might be the last in the list of creating the right amount of adrenaline rush to start with. Then the duration of the movie adds up to your seating experience – more than 160 minutes of runtime is just too much when you are not getting paisa-wasool action and most of the time its emotional chit chat.
Having said that, Bond movies are known for the exotic locations, perfection in the stunts and action sequences – no dearth of rawness in this movie as well. All in all, I recommend this movie for the fans. And if you are not a fan of James Bond, am judging you! 🙂
Go for it on an IMAX – ensure its not in 3D.
Now, enjoy !
