Man of Steel (Superman) Review

One Line Review: Great 1st half, 2nd half gets loud.  Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, this one’s man of steel! This Superman movie talks about his origin, how he reached Earth from his planet – Krypton, his restricted childhood (where his earth father told him not to use his power to show off or even in emergency as he might be made an outcast by the people of this planet), his discovery of his real father and his fight with the villain of Krypton. Most of the 1st half moves swiftly without much action sequences but it more than makes up for it post interval.
Plot: Due to the imminent fear of self destruction Superman’s real parents (Jor and Lara) imprint the Kryptonian dna into their newborn son – Kal (Superman) and send him out to Earth in an spaceship. General Zod the villain follows Kal’s clues to earth and picks him up destroy and recover the dna. And this fight gets very loud and lengthy in the end. The reporter (Lois) from The Daily Planet tries to pursue the identity of this man but does retreats as the man himself tells her to after telling her the truth. After this General Zod comes in and the never ending fight begins.

No wonder this would be pleasure to watch for all the Superman fans, I loved it too but frankly I found 2 negatives in the movie –
1. Too loud and too much fight in the end (repetitive at times);
2. This feedback need not be specific to this movie but to all 3D movie releases in India – I still hate the low quality of 3D movies. Makes the movie watching experience dark + painful for the eyes.
But otherwise the action was good. The man himself did a great job – Henry Cavill (Superman), his superfit body is something for which every girl would say, he’s hot! I did not find the heroine of this movie cute (or for that matter hot) at all, she was average. Russel Crowe (Superman’s real father) was good, as always. Superman’s earth mother had a very good role and was portrayed very well by Diane Lane.
I wore my Superman t shirt while watching. During the time when Superman moves around the earth, the 3D experience (for once) actually made me feel that am flying at that speed as well. Limited time coolness. All the time Superman broke sound barrier and a cloud emerged behind him, gave me a kick!
Remembering that line from Go Goa Gone – Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, that’s babaji! 🙂
Go have fun.
