You may say I got the inspiration for writing this blog post from the movie ‘Up in the Air’ but that’s not entirely true but I can surely say that the movie reinstated my belief in loyalty points 🙂
Ok, but what exactly is loyalty point? Well, the simplest way for me to understand this is that “Each organization has its own way of keeping their customers loyal to themselves hence they introduce loyalty points so that each time you shop with them/ use their services points in your account increases and once you reach a particular level in their slab you can redeem these points for gifts/cash back or any other form which ensures that these organizations retain you as a customer as well as excite you to buy more so that you earn more loyalty points and repeat this process over and over again. Phew, did you get that? I hope you do, else read it again 🙂

Well, when I use my ICICI credit card for any purpose I accumulate loyalty points; once it reaches a certain level I redeem it to get SS gift vouchers. As per need basis I buy clothes/household items from this store – which inturn have another loyalty points scheme [Just to add some self boosting – My wife and I are gold members here:)] So I add points on the SS loyalty plan as soon as I buy stuff from SS and because I use the same credit card for any extra payments made there I also end up adding points on my ICICI credit card!
So, what have you learned today? Ok, cutting short the teacher avatar – all am saying is that take up cards with loyalty benefits and shop where there is a solid loyalty program running!
Happy Shopping and Happy Loyalty points earning!
I make it a point to ALWAYS use my credit card in order to accumulate reward/loyalty points. Every year I manage to get gift vouchers (typically for Shoppers stop or Lifestyle) worth almost 10k. Unless a shopkeeper offers to give me a discount if I pay by cash, I always use CC. 🙂
Thats a nice one Adi! Yup, we too try and use our credit cards wherever possible to redeem the lovely gift options. Infact last week itself i ordered a book with some of the points earned! Though i dont shop regularly from SS or other Mall shops…..i definitely get my groceries and household stuff from places which have a point system like Spar or More.
