1 Line Review: A minimum of 2 times watch recommended.
Disclaimer: There are no spoilers in my review, don’t be afraid, read ahead.
Well of course it is an awesome movie to watch twice, but that’s not why I recommend a 2 time watch. I did so coz I know you will surely understand many parts of the movie the second time. Assuming you are not a real physics enthusiast. And if you are, you will watch it many more times, nevertheless! 🙂
If you have seen Inception multiple times and loved it each time, Interstellar is for you. Stop reading, book your tickets now.
Interstellar means ‘between the stars’ and this movie will keep you exactly there. Longer than what Gravity movie did to you. Gravity is still the best when it comes to special effects. I would not compare Interstellar with Gravity at all. Read my movie review of Gravity and you will know why.
But before you watch the movie, it would be good if I give a brief lesson on Physics, space, relativity, time, light years and stuff. Ya ya I know, big science words and all, but I read a few articles on the movie (and the concept on which the movie was made) and I think you will love me more if I form the basis for your Interstellar experience. Yes, you can thank me later.
Here we go:
1. The cast in the movie travels from 1 galaxy to another. Yes, I did not say one planet to another, its our galaxy to another, to another solar system. The relative time changes, 1 day in that galaxy could be 1 year on Earth, for example. This concept is the foundation of the movie, understanding this theory is very important.
2. The world out there need not be three dimensional (as we see it in 3D) it could be four/five dimensional, time could be one. Very tough to even imagine, forget understanding.
3. You can recreate gravitational pull on a spacecraft if you rotate the whole craft up to a certain speed. So that when you travel in space for years (well, hypothetically as of now) you need not stay in zero gravity all the time.
4. The wormhole thru which the cast travels into the new galaxy is not proven. It simply mean that if you would fold a sheet of paper (assuming that is space) you could travel from top to bottom of the page instantly, instead of travelling all along the length of the sheet.
5. Black holes exist and the sucks everything in. The black hole star that you will see in the movie is very surprisingly scientifically accurate.
OK, now am done with Gyaan. Go watch it with concentration.
Full credit goes to Christopher Nolan, the person who gave us The Prestige (one of my all time favourite movies), Memento (Ghajini), The Batman series and Inception. He has co-written the story as well. Going by the praises movie is receiving he’s gonna get many awards.
And what do I tell you about the actors, Matthew McConaughey and the little girl Mackenzie Foy will take your breath away.
It’s a 3 hour movie. Might sound long but its not, you will be glued.
