1 Line Review: DDLJ in a new package.
It was all over the news that Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya (HSKD) is a remake of Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayengen (DDLJ), so that was not a surprise. Twist was that there was no twist at all and the story broadly moved exactly like DDLJ! Well, almost 🙂
Even when the storyline went from predictable to very predictable, the movie did not lose its charm at all. The lead actors Varun Dhawan (his 3rd movie) and Alia Bhat (her 4th movie) have given a class performance. At no point in time I felt they are new comers. Technically, they actually are not and were expected to deliver a fine act, they did.
Am particularly impressed with Alia. She can act and leave behind many recent debutants. Watch her 2nd movie Highway and you would know why I say so.
Varun’s acting has matured in every movie. His last – Main Tera Hero was not a hit as Student of the Year but I still liked his performance.
HSKD is Kavya and Humpty’s love story and its cute. Minor changes to the usual plot from DDLJ makes it much funnier and loveable. Like the ‘last night we were drunk and something happened’ scene. And then the recreation of the famous scene of Amrish Puri with pigeons saying Phurr-Phurr, here it was a different kind of Phurr-Phur. And then the most anticipated train scene also had a good fun angle.
Over all the movie kind of slowed down just before interval but then it picked up well in the 2nd half. This movie also debuts Siddharth Shukla as the NRI boy who is supposed to marry kavya. Its a critical role and he did very well.
Sahil Vaid who played the role of Poplu (Humpty’s friend) deserves a special mention. His acting was super se bhi upar. His dialogue delivery was perfect and it cracked me much with laughter. He would definitely go places.
Music is not too great. I gave all the songs a few listen and got bored in sometime.
Simran, Jaa Jee Le Zindagi. Errr… I mean Kavya! 🙂
