Recommended only if you are a die hard Apple fan. Else give this book a miss.
If you are interested in knowing about Apple and its achievements then this is NOT the book to read.
I suggest you read Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson. If you have read it a long time ago and when you heard about Haunted Empire you thought of reading this book too then also I would suggest you read Walter’s book again instead of this one!
Haunted Empire’s title clearly states ‘Apple after Steve Jobs’ but still describes Steve’s stories for up to 100 pages in its 330 pager book! But frankly the book stays interesting and gripping only till then. (And that is the irony – its thrilling to read only when it talks about Steve Jobs but the book is about Apple after Steve) Beyond that it gets boring, except for a few interesting parts here and there. This book has been written by a journalist from the Wall Street Journal, Yukari Iwatani Kane.
If anything, it speaks a lot about its manufacturing partners in China – Foxconn. The rise, fall and rise of this company as a manufacturing partner, the lives of its employees (in detail) and what it meant to Apple (again in detail).
It also talks about its legal fight with Samsung. Multiple chapters dedicated to it and it keeps on going in so much detail that it gets way too exhausting by the end.
In the last chapter you will get to read the summary beautifully described. This, my friends, is the crux of the whole book.
Do read Hatching twitter by Nick Bilton, that’s a thrill riot. Click here to read my review of this book.
