Space movies fascinate me.
Gravity and Interstellar are the 2 recent ones I loved. But only ‘First Man’ I have seen on IMAX, I would love to see the other two also on IMAX, one day.
First Man is about Neil Armstrong, the first man who landed on moon. The story revolves around his life and his work starting from 1960 until he landed on the moon and then came back to earth which happened in 1969. Point to be noted – Am sure you would also be aware of the conspiracy theory that says, ‘Americans faked moon landing’ just to get ahead of the curve in space exploration, from USSR. Am not dwelling on this topic here, be my guest to watch millions of videos on this theory. Its fun actually, makes you feel like a detective.
Back to the movie. Ryan Gosling as Neil fits perfectly well. His acting is class apart, the way he has portrayed Neil’s life is beautiful. How he lost his daughter and then kept losing many of this colleagues at NASA (so many of his friends died in all the NASA experiments), how he became the only choice for the moon mission as a commander!
But the real winner (like all other space movies) is the cinematography and the wide camera angles, and obviously the amazing surround sound since I saw it on an IMAX. First scene itself will take your breath away – when Neil’s plane touches outer atmosphere and how it sounds and feels like to be there. But the ultimate movie experience is the last 30 minutes when the moon landing actually happens. Its thrilling, its fun and enthralling.

But the build up to the actual moon landing is a little slow. The movie itself is of two and half hours, 120 minutes should have been best. Not to take away from the failures that the moon mission had to go through before they actually did it (or not). But then this movie was about the ‘First Man’, not ‘First Mission’, hence more his life was rightly portrayed.
This movie has a good soundtrack as well, you can find them all on YouTube.
