Cloud Atlas Review

If you were ever going to a movie hall or plan to buy a DVD of the movie Cloud Atlas, DON’T. Am not even sure why would someone waste so much money in making such a movie with no head or tail. A total waste of producers and my money. Please give it a big miss.

The movie is around two hours and thirty minutes long, made with a budget of $ 102 million from independent sources, this is one of the most expensive independent films of all times! God, what a waste.

I would rather watch a Harry Potter or a chronicles or a Twilight movie than this one. It is actually adapted from a novel of the same name. Thank god for our desi Chetan Bhagat, atleast he writes some stuff that gets made into interesting movies. Even when ‘One night at a call center’ was no great, it was still better than cloud atlas! Bah.

Ok, Cloud Atlas has six parallel stories running in the movie but the stories are from various times; 70’s, 1930’s, 1980’s, 2144 (yes, future) and some medieval times etc. It will take you the entire movie to understand how all six stories are related but you will never get it. If you do, please comment on this blog post and let the world know what you have got that we don’t.

Fact was that many left the movie hall during the interval, which by the way appeared only 1 hour and thirty minutes after it started, every one was yawning anyways. Many brave hearts stayed much later in the 2nd half but then left as it was well past mid night, with the movie story going no where. Finally it ended and many clapped, no kidding they did.

I go with 1/5 for this colossal waste of money. They would have made 6 different movies of those 6 stories and it would have been 6 times better. Save yourself and watch the 1000’th time TV repeat of any Chronicle movie.

  1. Hi Adi,

I disagree. The whole movie is a new experience. 1st of all its not an entertainer…its a movie with a deep message into it. People who liked inception should go for it. I agree its an overstretched one but they didn't do it purposefully. Perhaps it is one of the few rarest hollywood movies which are so long. Their objective was to give you the experience with a message. World wide critics have applauded this movie. Unfortunately in India we have been watching Karan -Arjun, Punar janam movies…this is beyond that…

  2. well ,there are few acquaintances of mine who have liked Inception but have'nt liked Atlas..Inception for that matter also lacked novelty but the screenplay and pace was good enough to make it likable. However, movie as an entertainer enjoys different perception from people. Atlas has a good story line and message but lacks the zing.Unfortunately in India there is a good mass of people who would want to like movies which goes over the head 🙂
