Yuvraj Singh’s life story, before and after Cancer.
Before you jump to the conclusion that Yuvi’s (as he is largely known as) cancer story is inspiring, you should know that he ignored his cancer symptoms for way too long and that part should never be considered as an inspiration. Having said that, this book portray’s the real pain, agony and the vast stretch of patience he showcased through his entire cancer journey. And am guessing he has come out much wiser now, much more than ever before.
Yuvi needs no introduction to Indians as he is considered among the best batsmen in the Indian Cricket team. In his book, The test of my life, he talks about his childhood, how his father trained him to be the best batsman in the world, how to face fast bowlers and more importantly get discipline in life through a rigorous workout regime from a very early stage.
His father, Yograj Singh is a formar Indian team player and also a punjabi movie actor. His dedication to train Yuvi to become a superstar in Indian cricket team would remind you of every parent who wants their children to achieve what they almost missed.
A little trivia, Yuvi has also acted in 2 punjabi movies – Mehndi Sajda Di and Putt Sardara.
The book also walks us through the world cup win in 2011 which was happening parallel to his coughing. The number of times Yuvi has talked about him coughing and puking leading up to the diagnosis of Cancer would make you sick just by reading about it. Imagine what he was going thru!! And still he ignored it almost until it was too late!!
When the treatment actually started in January 2012 in the US, he had already delayed it far too long. So much so that even a day of delay was considered dangerous. The treatment went on for a couple of months and it was painful. Just read the 4th chapter – The test of my life. In this phase he read and re read only 1 book – Lance Armstrong’s Its Not About The Bike.
He has named a lot of people who stood by him during his difficult times. Her mom being the biggest pillar of support.
The dedication he showed after getting back and the zeal he has to get back to his feet and back to cricket is commendable. Some even said that he is trying too hard and he should not exert so much to his body, but he still did it.
Now he also runs a charitable organisation YOUWECAN. If Yuvi can, even you can. Is the mantra. Amazing.
The lesson that I take away from his book is ofcourse inspiration but more than that I take a learning here that we should not neglect what our body is saying. Hear what it tells you, act on it. Health is Wealth is an old saying but still holds true and will always be.
The book is available at Amazon as well as Flipkart at good discounted rates.
