2016 gave us a lot of good movies. These are the top 5 picks of 2016 along with my rating and review of the movie. Not in any specific order though.
UDTA PUNJAB
Frankly, I was not aware of the drug problem in Punjab until the censor board controversy took off just before the release date of ‘Udta Punjab’. The joke floating around this topic is that there is no actual drug problem in Punjab, its very easily available! 🙂
PINK
The dialogues are the real superstars of Pink. Ritesh Shah has packed so much punch in all of them that it hits you very hard & deep. Like the one which says No means No and its a full sentence in itself. This one touched me. Many such dialogues showcases how our society forms an opinion about girls/ladies and how smaller things are also treated as hints for characterising the other half. You got it watch it. Many a times.
DANGAL
First of all because its based on a real life story of Mr. Phogat who has 4 daughters. Along with himself, all his daughters are wrestlers. He ensured he made them into world class wrestlers. All of them. Secondly, this shows the girl power and their determination. Thirdly, it captures father daughter bonding like no other movie has ever done. Fourth, despite having a big superstar in the movie, the focus in not on Aamir but all screen space is taken by the girls, that’s where the real story is and rightly deserving centerstage.
M S DHONI – THE UNTOLD STORY
The movie starts with the goosebump moment of our World Cup victory and it surely sets the tone of what’s to come. Thanks to Sushant Singh Rajput’s dedicated performance, MSD’s legend is carried out beautifully. Its truly a dedicated to his personal life, upbringing and challenges he faced till he joined the Indian team. The life story of MSD from the time country started knowing him was not really the theme of the movie, as it looks like.
KAPOOR & SONS
This family entertainer is a must watch! The best part about the movie is that it sticks to its title. Its about the Kapoor and sons and thats exactly what you get to see in this 2 hours and 20 minutes of drama, comedy and romance. The sons and their struggles, their inhibitions, their lies and their love.
