I watched Shamitabh almost 6 months after its release. Somehow I missed it. I did hear its an average movie. Last weekend I got the time to give it a dekho. I must say I loved it!
The aspirational story of a movie buff was portrayed very very well. It looked very real only because of Dhanush, he actually looks like a malnourished teenager coming out of a poor family, his body and raw acting makes a deadly believable combination. Same was the case in his earlier hindi movie Ranjhanaa. Surprisingly when he appears in suit with the same body he does not look bad at all 🙂
Goes without saying Big B’s voice has an important role to play in making Shamitabh a big success (as much as it is). The technological combination of the voice and delivery from 2 different individuals may or may not be true but it sure made a good Hindi movie script.
Shruti Hassan’s sister Akshara was not bad at all for the role she was playing, she was convincing enough for an assistant’s role. Special mention to that boy who played the role of Dhanush in his younger days. School’s ‘scene kya hai’ episode is the best part of the movie and it stole my heart. The fun element in the movie kept ticking and its combination with the emotional ups and down of the Dhanush and Big B kept me interested till the end.
Big B has become such a legend that you will fall in love with him again and again and again and still ask for more! Same was the case with Shamitabh. Or the more recent Piku. He has become such a legend that it is an honour to be alive in the period when he is around! I came to know about Dhanush only because of his Kolaveri Di song else he would never have been on my radar.
If you have still not seen Shamitabh, I highly recommend it. Music wise, other than the Pidley song the other numbers are not bad. Go for it.
