1 Line Review: Boring. Been there done that. Nothing great.
I have read the book and that might have caused the fatigue, I guess. Otherwise also the story seemed stale to me. Boy and girl meets > falls in love > goes to parents > convinces them > gets married. (yawn)
2 states is based on Chetan Bhagat’s famous novel by the same name. He claims it to be very similar to his love story. It starts at IIM-A and involves Ananya (from Tamil Nadu) and Krish (from Punjab), goes on to Tamil Nadu where Krish tries to impress her family members one by one. Giving IIT tuitions to Ananya’s brother, making presentation for her father and getting her mother a spot on a singing show at his office program.
Then Ananya goes to Krish’s place and tries to impress his family. Once by settling a dowry case at a wedding function.
Yawwwwwwn. Phew, typical hindi movie story.
I guess Chetan Bhagat always wanted to write stories for movies and when he did not get any opportunity he started writing novels (keeping Bollywood in mind). Kai Po Che was still better. Cannot compare 3 Idiots here as Aamir is a class apart, he can make a dull story also come alive, still 3 idiots is a class apart.
2 states is a class average. In my honest opinion.
What I hated the most was the hero. He was emotionless and had the same expression all over the movie. Did not fit the character at all. I also read that this role was initially to be done by Saif and then even SRK was contacted. Then finally Arjun Kapoor did it. I personally think Ranbir Kapoor would have done this better. If only I was the casting director.
Ronit Roy had a very small role to play as Krish’s dad and he did an awesome job. If you have not seen Ronit’s best performance yet, I recommend – UDAAN (he even won a Filmfare award for it). I will even go ahead and say that Rohit should have played the role of Krish!
Alia Bhat is one of the new actors whom I love. She looked beautiful, stunning and gorgeous in 2 states. But then story itself was so average that she could not have done much. You should go and watch her Highway again.
Confession: I saw this movie only because of Alia.
I suggest you wait for it to run on repeat mode on all TV channels. Like Babul, may be.

Neat review. Alia and Ronit Roy were really awesome here 🙂
