The practical way of Social Networking

This is in continuation to my earlier blog post – Why Google+ will be a hit. Since my thoughts on Google+ was going way beyond the better usage theme of the product, I thought of quickly jotting it down in a separate post, instead of lengthening the earlier post itself.

With respect to facebook –

How often have you thought that you wanted to share something (update, photo, video, links etc) on your wall but you do not want to show this to a few in your friend list? Very often, right? This is the problem that we face today at facebook. Solution? Some of us go to the extreme of not adding (or removing) the few folks with whom they are not as open as the rest of the friends (in the friend list) – this  may include your closest family members. Do you relate to this situation? I guess you do 🙂

Now this is where Google+ takes the charge, giving you your boundaries the way you like it! You can now showcase ‘stuff’ only to those whom you really really want to showcase it to 🙂 no more inhibitions!

A very practical approach to social life, isn’t it? Think about it, do you talk to a group of people the same way if you have your siblings standing next to you? Do you laugh as much in a movie when a non-veg joke pops up when you are with friends or when you are with parents/ siblings? Google+ takes the same level of distinction in your social networking life.

When I have to talk Perfios specific stuff, I will choose the Perfios circle and not  everyone!!

Privacy to the highest level – Try figuring out where you belong in your friend’s circle. You might have put him/her in a particular circle and would be sharing all the right stuff in that circle, but not necessarily you would have got the same respect 🙂 The privacy settings are neat. Since it’s all about circles you might be in someone’s Professional Circle, Friends circle or the Best Friends circle, all dependent on what you mean to them!!

Facebook on the other hand has always been on the fire for all sorts of issues relating to privacy of data (users’ most valuable info). Remember that famous interview of Mark Zuckerberg [I need not explain who he is :)] where he started sweating? NO? Here it is –

Here is his Google+ profile. He is already on more than 1.1 lakh circles on Google+. This is exactly what am talking about, he may be in those many circles but it matters the most when he adds YOU in his circle, that too the appropriate one, not the circle which says SPAM circle :):)

until next post (very soon). c ya.
