1 Line Review: If you loved Highway, you will like this one.
Its like Imtiaz Ali thinks of striking a particular chord inside your heart and puts his own (heart) in ensuring that that happens. I could never recover from Rockstar (I still watch it whenever its on TV) then came Highway, though it did not strike as much as Rockstar but it still did. And now Tamasha.
I was speechless for hours after the movie, I was even asked if am feeling alright, I did not have an answer as I was lost in thoughts. Well, if a movie keeps you thinking (positively) then its a very well made picture.
You will get glimpses of Rockstar, 3 Idiots and even Highway in this Tamasha. Atleast you would be able to relate to these (I did). The passion from Rockstar, life-main-kya-kar-rahe-ho concept from 3 Idiots and that emotional-portrayal-which-touches-the-right-chord-in-your-heart from Highway. But I was clueless when the movie started, I even thought, Bhai Ranbir, phir se flop?! I also spotted Sita (Ramayan waali) donning a R + S tattoo on her arm. Well, that cracked me up big time. Do check that out!
With a series of movies that flopped at the box office, Ranbir had a lot to prove to himself than to the audience. Last we expect him to lose confidence in himself as we all know what he is capable of. FYI – Rockstar stays my all time Ranbir favourite. Guess Tamasha is his next best.
Ved (Ranbir) plays a double role, Don and Ved. Its a story of how and why a common man Ved, become a Don and why he is forced to get back to becoming Ved, again. Tara (Deepika) meets Ved, pyaar hota hai and as usual there are issues which creates boundaries between then forcing them to stay away. But how this feeling is portrayed is important. After the first 15 minutes when you start getting a grasp of what the hell is happening, you will start loving what you see and would not want the mushy mushy love story to end. But the adrenaline rush happens when the song ‘Heer toh badi sad hai ji’ ends, do tell me if you agree.
Second half gets stretched a bit in a few long scenes but then it soon recovers and gets back to touching-the-right-chord track. I specially love the ending scene. Watch out for the story telling Ved. Totally mesmerises with the flawless execution, everytime. Remember Alia Bhatt’s monologue from Highway?
Music grows on to you. ‘Matargasti’ has been promoted too much hence it has got stuck in our mind. but, ‘Wat wat wat’ and ‘Heer to badi sad’ are two other good tracks in the movie.
Imtiaz Ali (writer + director) and Ranbir Kapoor are the true winners of Tamasha. The way Tamasha has been executed may qualify for saying – ‘its not for the messes’ but then it deals with mediocrity, how can it not be for the masses?
I suggest you go for this one, even with a two and half hours of runtime, you will not come out blank. It will make you think. Just like me, I hope you get positive thoughts. Enjoy!
Ved, Tum Don Ho!
