I actually have stopped listening to music. Well, not entirely, but only when I do my morning brisk walks.

This is from my last marathon in Bangalore – 2014. |
I used to listen to downloaded music (as well as music online from Apps like Saavn and TuneIn) each morning when I go for my brisk walk. Well that continued for multiple years. But then I guess age took over (or something like that) and I got enlightenment to do better than just listening to music.
Not taking away anything away from music at all while I tell you other things to do. Music heels us, makes us time travel, makes us sad, makes is happy, excites us, does unknown things to the brain. It continues to do so and will do so for eternity, no questioning that!
My post is only to showcase that this exercise time can be used for listening to other things too. To be precise – TED Radio and Umano App.
TED Radio Hour is a Radio show devised from collecting various similar types of TED Talks and then talking to the speakers off the stage. It gives you a good insight on the subject matter, for that hour, and also into the speakers who how achieved something phenomenally big to get called on to the TED stage. TED stands for Technology Entertainment Design. It was initially formed to be a talk show only for these areas but from the day it got launched there was no looking back. Am a big fan of www.ted.com and hence this recommendation. The TED Radio Hour is hosted by Guy Raz and he is an excellent radio host to say the least. He is also the editorial director.
Next up – Umano is an App that I have recommended before as well in my 2013 post – “5 Must Have Apps While Exercising“, I am emphasising on this one again coz this is, take a guess, special! 🙂 Well, for beginners, Umano is an App that reads the news to you, so while you are walking/running this app can read all the latest articles from across the web. You might wanna make the selection of industries though. Also, recently they introduced ‘Smart Radio’ which plays the similar articles that you like listening to. Like more of breaking/ latest news or more of startup, business or technology stuff etc. So its kindof neat to see the app learning thru your listening behaviour. Cool. Initially it might take a little bit of tweaking but once ready its nice to listen in.
More when I discover more. Keep Walking! 🙂
Disclaimer: I do brisk walking and my suggestions are based on that kind of exercise, if you are into gym, these suggestions may or may not fit the bill.
