Ek Thi Daayan Review

1 Line Review: Bahut saare they daayan!

Rating – 1st half: 4 stars. After interval: 2 stars.

Relax: I am NOT revealing any part of the story here, chill.

Movie starts with a disclaimer that this movie does not portray women as witches, in the voice of Konkona Sen Sharma. I laughed. Then the movie started, picked up pace, story evolved and boom > I felt it. The movie was getting interesting, freaky and scary. I was loving it and even mentally thought of giving it a 4 star but then 2nd half on the movie kicked in and my senses slowly went back to la la land. If only the pace and excitement of 1st half was sustained this movie would have made a killing at the box office! Magar afsoos.

And then the best parts of the movie came in last – za climax. Now, mind you ladies and gentlemen, this part will jolt your movie watching experience. Things went from bad to worse. I will not tell you what happened or how the movie took a turn and why. You go watch it and tell me.

Now, for the good things about this movie: Watching a Konkona Sen Sharma from now on will never be the same, I will be scared to core whenever I watch her act in any non-daayan movie as well. Yes, she was that good. Pass on your cold drink to your friend when she is on screen, you might just spill it!

The kids in the first half will take your heart away. Total cutie pies they are. And then Imran Hashmi, he was good. Frankly I have never disliked his acting, more so after Dirty Picture.

Huma Qureshi has gone fat from the time you last saw her in Gangs of Wasseypur, Kalki Koechlin has a short role and sings the best song of the movie – ‘Yaram’ (I love this song).

All in all, I came out disappointed. I had hopes and the hopes were intact till the time I was buying popcorn during the interval, post that it went – ek thi movie! Like some times Indian Cricket team snatches defeat from a winning match!
