Dhoom 3 Review

1 Line ReviewVroom Boom Dhoom!

Disclaimer: I do not reveal the big suspense of Dhoom 3 in this review but there are a few minor spoilers ahead.

Bande hain hum uske hum pe kiska zor ummedon ke suraj nikle charon oor. Irade hain fauladi himati har kadam apne haathon kismat likhne aaj Chale hain hum

Aamir Khan will mesmerize you, so would the kid and so would Katrina Kaif! Goes without saying, Aamir is the best thing that happened to the Dhoom franchise. I personally consider him the best that Indian cinema has today and with the story line that Dhoom 3 has, he plays his parts smooth as silk.

At times in the second half his role might remind you of ‘Rizwan Khan’ from ‘My name is khan’ but that’s just a momentary thought, you will get over it. His flawless  acting, body language and the body itself will get the ladies go awwww! The entire movie has Aamir all over it. For the good.

And if you have seen a 2006 thriller movie called ‘The Prestige’, you will realize the plot and the suspense of this movie real quick. In any case, they themselves reveal the suspense before it gets into intermission. That scene is riveting. Wait for it.

Then there’s another hero in the movie – that BMW motorcycle, what a bike. Wait for moments when it converts itself into other things. Maza aa gaya. I guess the CGI work here is amazingly well done. I was also told that Krrish 3 has some neat CGI work (and that too homegrown), if you loved the stuff there, you will like it here for sure. But the bike chase scenes in Dhoom 3 are excellent, much better than what Indian cinema has ever tasted.

Katrina Kaif hardly spoke for the first one and half hours, I was thinking she will have dhamakedaar role in the second half. Nothing of that happened. Guess she was in the movie for 4 songs and few dialogues. But trust me, if you are a Katrina fan (like me) you would watch her in all the 4 songs and say, paisa vasool hai boss. And then Aamir’s performance is a bonus and What-e-bonus it is!! The song ‘Kamli’ will take your breath away (click here to see the making of the song). ‘Malang‘ will keep your jaw dropped (amazing work done by Katrina and Aamir both + the mega sets!), ‘Tu hai junoon‘ will make you fall in love, again and the title song in the end when the credit rolls (do not leave your seats), will keep Katrina lingering in your mind many hours after you have left the theatre. If they ever show all 4 songs in a big screen, in repeat mode, I will totally watch it, atleast a 100 times! πŸ™‚

Even when its hard to talk about anything else other than Aamir and Katrina in Dhoom 3, I cannot forget that there are 2 other characters also in the movie which are equally important. ACP Jai Dixit (Abhishek Bachchan) and his side kick Ali Akbar (Uday Chopra). Even when they have been doing such great work since Dhoom 1, they remain ACP and side kick. Poor guys. Btw, ACP reminds me of only one man – ACP Pradyuman from CID, this Jai Dixit is no where close, ACP Pradyuman has been an ACP for more than 15 years now! Baah!!

Back to Dhoom 3, Jai Dixit’s entry in an auto rickshaw and the fight sequences reminded me of Rowdy Rathore and Dabang kind of masala movies where I cringed watching such scenes, I wanted it to finish fast. Then there was a funny scene where Ali applies brakes on his bike, Jai from the back seat jumps up in the air to hit the gunda. I laughed out loud on the utter atrociousness. Having said that Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra do justice to their roles. Ya ya ya I know I cannot get away by justifying Uday Chopra in any movie at all, but if you see his role in the earlier movies (in Dhoom), he does what is expected out of him. Accept it, he is funny at times.

Just the fact that American Police needed these 2 Indian Police officers to catch a local bank thief there was hard to digest!

The climax scene at Hoover Dam is just enchanting. For the sheer fact that the helicopter shots of the location is just so enthralling.

When the credit rolls, sit back for the title song to play with latka and jhatkas from Katrina. Dhoom Macha Leeeeeeeee!

The way it ended, am sure there is Dhoom 4 coming up!

  2. It is not Hoover's Dam, it is shot at The Contra Dam, commonly known as the Verzasca Dam and the Locarno Dam of Switzerland…
I realised it as soon as i saw the credits at the end to Swiss shooting crew…

  3. were you drunk while watching the movie?
to be honest this is most illogical and ill conceived storyline ever.
