Here’s a collection of the best movies of 2012, according to me. My review of each movie can be found next to the poster. Here we go!
Paan Singh Tomar: In the end you might stand up and applaud for Irrfan Khan! What a deadly performance. ‘Kaho haan’. Yes, this movie could become a life changing one for Irrfan. Enough of selling prepaid cards (Vodafone ad) and Life Insurance policies (remember Kya aap kam insurance lene ki bimaari ke shikaar hai wala ad?), Paan Singh Tomar could be his career best performance, also for the fact that he is the lead, the movie revolved around him and he’s hardly ever out of the the screen. Kahaani: A pregnant woman searching for her husband. Another classy performance by Bidya sorry Vidya Balan. And this comes in just after she received a National Award for ‘The Dirty Picture’, what a way to say thank you. What an actress. [A joke doing rounds – Having 3 lovers in ‘The Dirty Picture’, in ‘Kahaani’, getting pregnant was inevitable!] Read my full review here
Vicky Donor: Unlike the perception (due to the theme of the movie), the movie is cute, funny and delivers a message to the society without getting vulgar or insensitive at any point in time. Ayushmann Khurrana has done a very fine job, Yami Gautam is amazingly beautiful and does justice to the role (you will be convinced she is a bengoli) and Annu Kapoor just gave rebirth to his acting career! Shanghai: A slow political thriller lasting 2 hours. After Khosla Ka Ghosla, Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! and Love Sex aur Dhokha comes another ‘zara hat ke’ movie from Dibakar Banerjee. This one is about Bharat Nagar where a mega infrastructure project (backed by the ruling party) promising to change the face of this small town, gets involved in a political murder of an activist (Prosenjit Chatterjee) protesting this change. BARFI!: The year 2012 has already given us awesome movies like Kahaani, Paan Singh Tomar, Vicky Donor, Shanghai and the so called mega blockbuster Ek Tha Tiger (according to the Box office, not me) and then comes this masterpiece – BARFI! Ranbir’s last was Rockstar and he has already won multiple awards (full list here) for that one and now this gets even better….without saying a word! [literally]. I never thought even if the main hero of a movie does not utter a word I would still love a movie (as this is NOT a silent movie). That happened yesterday! Ranbir Kapoor, as I have said earlier as well, is the most talented superstar Indian Cinema has got, after decades. Read my full review here

English Vinglish: Many ghar ki kahaani, portrayed in a very beautiful manner. A perfect protagonist and superb actors in the supporting roles. Many of us would be able to relate to the story of ‘English Vinglish’ as at some point in time in our lives (or for some, even today)we would have teased our parents/ grand parents for their lesser knowledge of this language called ‘English’! Even when Hindi is our national language Indians take pride in being able to communicate in English and looking down on those who cannot really comprehend English well… read my full review here
Oh My God (OMG): is a welcome eye opener for many blind folded believers of god who get misled by those who have made a business out of extracting money from such blind believers. As if you have been drugged to do whatever someone says or you are so scared about your well being that you believe 200% that doing any or all kinds of superstitious things will make your life better! If only. Read my full review here
ARGO: Through out the movie I was siting on the edge of the seat, literally. ARGO is the most thrilling movie I have seen in 2012. Even if you have not watched the latest James Bond thriller Skyfall, does not matter, give it a miss and book tickets for ARGO, now! The movie is based on a true story which happened in Iran in November 1979, when militants took over the American Embassy in retaliation to the belief that their leader ‘Shah’ was kept in the US… Read my full review here
Life of Pi: Fabulous, fantastic, amazing, mesmerizing, visual and emotional treat. Many of you would have read the book (by the same name, written by Yann Martel) already but if you haven’t, you are in for a surprise as you would have never guessed about the awesomeness you are about to experience! An Indian family running a zoo plans to move out…read my full review here
Top 2 grossers (ETT and Dabanng 2) are missing from this list, well at the end its your list, which contradicts from billions of people.
Exactly, these are the best movies of 2012 according to me and also this list comprises of the best movies as per the quality and not according to how much it earned at the box office! 🙂
