Akira (2016 Hindi film): An Entertaining Thriller

Akira is a tamil remake. Am not sure how entertaining the original was, but this one surely is!

I like a movie which sticks to its plot and does not swing into dance and romance program every 30 mins. Akira has no songs, not that I noticed, may be once something played in the background.

Akira has had a tuff life from the very beginning. As a child she fought for justice for girls with her father’s blessings but the society did not see it that way. She was sent to juvenile remand home for 3 years. Later when she started her college in Bombay, multiple things worked against her and she got caught in the middle of a police cover up controversy. How she single handedly maneuvered from each such situation is what you should watch out Sonakshi Sinha for. I liked her a lot in this movie. The role played by young Akira was also performed well (by Mishiekka Arora). Along her struggle she was helped by a friend who had a short role and very few dialogues but did an excellent job at that, watch out for her.

But the ‘surprisingly awesome acting’ award goes to none other than Anurag Kashyap. He plays the bad ass ACP who gets into a mess by deciding to loot a bag full of money from an accident scene. The way he delivers his dialogues, his posture, his auro, his screen presence when he is in the scene is just too pleasing. You cannot ignore him. Beautiful acting.

Konkona Sen Sharma was also in the movie as an honest heavily pregnant police officer and he delivered 100% on her character. Whenever she is applying her 6th sense into a crime scene you will see that on her face. Loved her too.

Overall the story was tight and I could not have guessed the climax. In fact even till the end I did not realise it could end like this. I suggest you give it a dekkho.

Statutory Warning: Do not take kids along, few scenes and violence may not be appropriate for kids.
