If you are one of those who has not been to play’s (like me) and feels that play is not your cup of tea. Think again.
Or, you are one of those who goes to only the reputed play’s and think’s the newer generation may not be worth a watch! Rethink your strategy.
Or you are one of those who have been to many plays and explore watching new stuff in the city. Go ahead watch Madona!
Madona (or Mada or Madhu as she is being called by different sets of people in the family/ friend circle and the society) is a light heart-ed play which revolved around a 20 year old, not so educated girl who lives in a shabby house with her mother and works (household chores) in a house nearby to earn her living.
This play showcases how a materialistic society takes advantage of a situation and how the same situation is viewed so very differently by this uneducated girl and works so hard towards (actually) achieving it (unknowingly)!
The star cast is superb. I do not know if they have done any play’s before but no where I saw any slippages. I know ‘Madona‘ as she is from the same MBA college as I am and we have worked together at naukri.com as well, but I had no clue about her (this) hidden talent! She is bubbly enough for sure 🙂
The story line may not have griped you from the very beginning if the acting would have been very basic. The family where Madona works has a working couple where the husband (Milind) played Sudipta Banerjee is a techie and has been goofing around in the industry. He has planned to keep an exhibition of her wife’s paintings. His wife (Sushmita) played by Sajedah has a so-so creative abilities but with a friend’s (Varun, played by Nirlek Dhulla) push Milind gets into this exhibition idea!
What follows after this is for you to watch!
Madona (played by the gorgeous Swatiey Pareek) has a cute and lovely relationship with her mother (played by Sangeeta Panda). How her mother keeps urging her to marry one of the 3 she thinks is the right match for her has a gripping script! One of the best scenes is where Madona imitates her mother and lip sync’s whatever she says! This mom is awesomely hilarious 🙂
More funny and enjoyable parts of the play that keeps you intact are those between the 3 ‘would be’ husband prospects for Madona! Vishnu, Khan and Kamal played by Mukesh Ghatiya, Musten Jiruwala and Amit Kulkarni respectively. Mind you, all of them are top class actors!
But of all I was most impressed by Madona herself and her versatile acting. She can laugh or cry instantly and has the power to make you do so! Impressive.
Though the play ends on a sad note, it does deliver the message deep inside you.
Madona a Dhaaran productions, Written and Directed by Namrta Dhar. It’s a must watch for everyone.
I go with 4 out of 5 points. With a 2 hour play I only wished it was a 30 minutes shorter.
